A school sports teacher at a private school has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a boy in Gujarat’s Amreli, police said on Wednesday.

The accused, identified as Vishal Savaliya, allegedly sexually abused a 12-year-old boy, who stayed and studied at the school hostel under the teacher’s supervision, with other students.

The matter came to light after the father of the boy approached police and lodged a complaint, alleging that Savavliya had sexually assaulted his son about four to five times.

As per the complaint, Vishal Savaliya called the boy to his room to give him a phone charger and then sexually assaulted him on January 7.

Acting upon the complaint, the police registered a case and arrested the accused teacher amid protests by locals, who demanded strict action against Savaliya.

The police said that videos of homosexual acts had been found on the accused’s phone.

A case has been registered against Savaliya under various sections including the POCSO Act and further investigation is underway, police said.
